The signs of autism can look different for each child and can change as they grow, which makes knowing where to start feel overwhelming. It’s normal to feel confused and frustrated. However, early intervention has been shown to be crucial in supporting children with developmental challenges. A clear autism diagnosis can bring clarity, helping to better understand your child's strengths, challenges, and even the behaviors that seem difficult to manage. With this insight, we can work together to create a personalized plan tailored to your family’s unique needs, providing a strong foundation for your child's growth and development.
Please know that BSS is here to walk alongside you through this process, understanding how intimidating it can feel. We’re committed to providing support every step of the way, answering any questions, and offering resources as needed. Don't hesitate to give us a call or send us an email—we’re here to help!
Step 1: Contact us!
We will chat with you about your child and your unique case needs. We will answer any questions you may have and ensure coverage options are as clear and accessible.
Step 2: Getting a Diagnosis
You will schedule a meeting with a psychologist who will conduct a diagnostic assessment with your child. During this process, the psychologist will typically provide a questionnaire for parents to complete about your child’s behavior. Please note that this assessment usually takes around 3 hours.
Afterward, the psychologist will review the results and prepare a comprehensive report for your family. This report will include valuable resources and guidance on what steps to take next.
At this point, feel free to ask any and all questions you may have—this is the time to gain clarity and make sure you have all the information needed to move forward.
Step 3: ABA?
If ABA feels like the right fit for your family, we will have a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) visit you for an initial assessment typically taking about an hour. During this visit, the BCBA will gather information and create a personalized treatment plan tailored to your child’s unique needs, ensuring the most effective approach to support their development.
Step 4: Services
Whether through a center or direct care, a Behavior Technician (BT) will provide one-on-one therapy with your child. These trained professionals work closely with a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to ensure your child receives the best support. Additionally, BTs can offer family training as needed to help everyone in the home understand and support your child’s progress.
Step 5: The Data
At Behavior Supports and Solutions LLC (BSS), we collect real-time data to continuously measure your child’s behavior, ensuring our plans are always guided by accurate insights. We’ll share this data with you so you can track your child’s progress and gain a clear understanding of the path ahead, empowering you to be an active part of the process.
Once you have received your diagnosis from the psychologist, reach out to our team to get started! To ensure we can begin and quicken the process, we will need the following items:
Please share any relevant medical information that may affect your child’s care, such as recent surgeries, allergies, or other important details.
Additionally, please provide a brief summary of your child's family dynamic. For example:
"My child loves playing with his toy trucks and eating Skittles. He lives with his mother and father, who are happily married, and has an older brother and a younger brother. We also have a playful dog named Gus, who loves to fetch and snuggle with the kids."
This information will be securely stored in our inbox to ensure confidentiality and proper handling.
